1. Scope
1.1
This Standard specifies the test methods to be used in measuring the energy efficiency of small single- and three-phase rotating motors. This Standard includes but is not limited to the following motor types:
(a) capacitor (permanent-split); (b) capacitor (capacitor-start, capacitor-run); (c) capacitor-start; (d) split-phase; (e) split-phase-start, capacitor-run; (f) shaded-pole; (g) repulsion; (h) repulsion-induction; (i) repulsion-start-induction-run; (j) reluctance; (k) universal
; (l) dc?; (m) permanent magnet?; (n) brushless dc?; (o) inverter driven motors?; (p) polyphase induction motors.
The method of quoting and the permissible tolerance on the nominal efficiency values are also specified.
The tests listed apply to operation on alternating current only. ?These motors also include an integral converter that operates on alternating current.
1.2
This Standard applies to three-phase motors rated up to 0.746 kW at 1800 r/min (or equivalent
) and single-phase motors rated up to 7.5 kW.
An equivalent motor is a motor with the same torque output but with different kilowatt output and speed. Torque varies as kilowatts per revolutions per minute.
